Calmness and Relaxation

Sometimes parents ask me about how to help with calmness and relaxation. Some students become nervous around examination time and I have found that various techniques are helpful (to parents and students alike).

I have made some videos on youtube. They are completely free. The links are below:

Relaxation and Self-Hypnosis (1 - Balloons) - YouTube

Relaxation and Self-Hypnosis (2 - Three Breaths) - YouTube

Relaxation and Self Hypnosis (3 - Breathing More Easily) - YouTube

These videos can be played to anyone when they are about to sleep and usually I find that my own children fall asleep within around 10 minutes of starting to listen. They are still listening in their early stages of sleep, so it is ok to have them playing.

The parents who have used these so far have said that it has helped their children in many ways – to be calmer and to be more relaxed and hence more focussed and to be able to concentrate for longer periods.

In addition to the above, I have found that these have helped my own children to have improved memory and ability in their own tests (11+, GCSES, A Levels, University examinations etc) and other ‘stressful’ situations like chess competitions/sport competitions/music examinations and ahead of interview situations.
